Meet the Insurance Risk Europe Advisory Board. These industry professionals have volunteered their time and effort to help develop our Insurance Risk Europe conference. Their dedication is critical to the success of the event and ensuring high-level quality content is provided to attendees. Our esteemed advisors are:

Thomas C. Wilson, Group Chief Risk Officer, Allianz SE

Tom is Chief Risk Officer at Allianz Group, responsible for risk management, policies and guidelines for all of Allianz's global insurance and asset management businesses. Prior to joining Allianz in 2008, Tom was the Chief Risk Officer for ING Insurance, joining in 2005; Global Head, Finance & Risk Practice at Oliver Wyman & Company (a consulting firm specializing in serving financial services firms in risk, strategy and organization) joining in 2002; CFO of Swiss Re New Markets joining in 1998 (responsible for the risk management, financial / management reporting, treasury and back-office operations for the alternative risk transfer and capital markets activities of Swiss Re); and, Global Head, Risk Management Practice, at McKinsey & Company, joining in 1990.

Tom is widely published and is the author of Value and Capital Management: A Handbook for the Finance and Risk Functions of Financial Institutions published in the Wiley Finance Series.
Tom has spent most of his professional career in Europe, having lived and worked in Munich, Amsterdam, New York, London and Zurich. Tom earned his BSc in Business Administration with honors from the University of California at Berkeley and his PhD in Economics from Stanford University. Tom is a dual American/Swiss citizen.

 Raj Singh

 Raj Singh, Group Chief Risk Officer, Standard Life

Appointed Group Chief Risk Officer in January 2013, Raj Singh is responsible for developing strategies to manage financial, strategic and operational risk across the Standard Life group.

Before joining Standard Life, Raj had acquired extensive experience in financial services worldwide. In 2011 he established advisory firm Accredere AG in Switzerland, advising financial institutions on capital, risk, and reinsurance issues, and remains a non-Executive Board member. From 2007 to 2011, Raj was Group Chief Risk Officer at Swiss Re Insurance Company Ltd in Switzerland, where he was also a member of the Executive Board and Committee. Before this, he was Group Chief Risk Officer at Allianz SE in Germany, a position he held from 2002. Prior to this he held various senior positions at Citibank from 1988 to 2002.

He is a member of the Advisory Board at the International Center for Insurance Regulation at Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany.

Paolo Cadoni, Technical Head of Department in the Prudential Policy Division, PRA

Paolo joined the Bank of England (formerly FSA) in 2004 where he has held a succession of posts both in banking and insurance. He is currently a Technical Head of Department in the Prudential Policy Directorate leading on PRA/Bank of England's input into the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority's (EIOPA) Committees and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors' (IAIS) Financial Stability and Technical Committee.

Since March 2013 Paolo is the Chair of the IAIS Capital Solvency and Field Testing Working Group in charge of developing and field testing the Basic Capital Requirement (BCR), Higher Loss Absorbency (HLA) and Insurance Capital Standard (ICS). In the past, Paolo also chaired the EIOPA Internal Models Committee.

Until March 2009 he was also responsible for the FSA's policy development and implementation of the internal model method (IMM) for counterparty credit risk for banks and investment firms. He also represented the FSA in the Overall Capital and Quantitative Impact Study Working Group of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and led the FSA's work on QIS5.

Prior to becoming a regulator Paolo worked as a financial modeller in the oil and power sector.

He holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the ICMA Centre and an MSc in Econometrics from Southampton University.

 Sumit Mehta

Sumit Mehta, ‎Investments Manager, Legal & General

Sumit Mehta is a Senior Investments Manager at Legal and General Retirement (LGR), a team responsible for managing ~£50bn of annuities on Legal & General Group's balance sheet. Sumit is responsible for investment strategy of LGR's international funds, and also oversees portfolio construction and pricing of new pension risk transfer business. Further, his role involves looking at liquidity and collateral issues, considerations around clean and dirty CSAs, impact of EMIR and central clearing on the balance sheet, and quantifying, managing and efficiently hedging liquidity risks in times of market stress.

Prior to his current role, Sumit spent 8 years at RBS within its Fixed Income division, primarily working with European institutional clients on a variety of rates and credit derivative solutions and also running its award-winning Inflation Structuring desk.

Sumit holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore

Annette Olesen, Group Chief Risk Officer, Nordea Life & Pensions

Annette Olesen is the Group CRO for Nordea Life & Pensions, the largest life & pension company in the Nordics. She is overall responsible for risk management across the Nordea Life & Pensions group as well as capital management insofar as modelling, assessments and monitoring at the NLP Group level. Annette previously worked as partner with one of the big 4 accounting firms and has international experience from working in London 1998-2009. Since 2004 Annette has been involved in the political debate relating to Solvency II, and she is today a member of the Insurance & Reinsurance Stakeholder Group of EIOPA.
